I have a huge research tree on Ancestry for people who may be related to my other trees, but haven't confirmed yet. One other thing that I like is that you can break branches off of trees and use them to create a new tree or add them to an existing tree.
I've been in touch with this man for two years now and he was never inspired to help until I sent a FTM report. Last night I sent one to a distant cousin and he replied a few hours later by putting me in touch with his family's resident genealogist and sending me a 17-page tree. You can click on a person and make ancestor or descendants reports and choose to include photos and your notes (or not). This is a great way of sharing your research with family members, particularly older members who may not be tech savvy enough to navigate a tree online. The other feature that I really like is the reports. The latest version also lets you go back to saved trees, so if you add a bunch of stuff that you realize is wrong, you can click to remove and re-upload to Ancestry. In addition to documents, I personally feel nervous about putting so much work into something online that I don't "own" and which could disappear.

But with FTM you can download everything as a backup when you have a paid subscription and access them later (even when you don't have a paid subscription). When you have hundreds or thousands of people on a tree you don't want to download their census records one by one, but unless you maintain a paid Ancestry subscription at all times you won't have access to those documents. First, because you can backup your Ancestry trees including downloading all the documents you have added to the tree. If you use Ancestry, FTM is a necessary add-on in my opinion.
I have had the last few versions including the latest 2019 one. It's a small gesture but seriously, respect peoples' time & effort in helping you out.
